A group of adventurous children from Hillesley Primary School made the most of the brand-new Y8 bus service from Wotton-under-Edge to Hillesley this week, turning a routine school day into an exciting learning journey.
As part of their geography local study, the pupils hiked from their school to the Wotton Heritage Centre, where they enjoyed an engaging and informative talk from local volunteers. The visit gave them a valuable insight into the history and development of their area, bringing their classroom learning to life.
To ensure they were back in time for lunch at school, the class caught the newly launched Y8 bus — a move that both supported a local service and made the trip more accessible.
Headteacher of Hillesley Primary School praised the outing, saying: “It was a great way for us to get our children out and about in the local area to extend their learning, and we were very pleased to support the valuable, new bus service.”
The educational journey also offered a moment of connection with the wider community. During the ride, the children chatted with one passenger travelling to Yate, who shared how vital the Y8 route is to her wellbeing — highlighting the impact of this service in our rural areas. The school’s use of the Y8 bus underlines not only a creative approach to education, but also the broader value of rural transport links in keeping communities connected and supported.
