About

The History of the Magazine

Since its inception in October 2005 by Karin Gray, The Wotton-Under-Edge Directory has been a steadfast supporter of local businesses and events in the area. Over the years, the magazine has evolved significantly, transitioning from its early days of black and white advertisements to the vibrant, colour-filled pages we see today. Despite these changes, the magazine has retained its dedicated following, with some original advertisers still featured to this day.

In February 2008, the editorial reins were passed from Karin Gray to Polly and Steve Barnes, who continued to lead until July 2009 when Moira Buist took over.

Fast forward to 2018, after nine years of dedicated service, Moira Buist decided to pass on the baton. Enter Jan Baber, the current publisher, who has been steering the ship for six years and counting. Though the magazine’s appearance may have evolved slightly over time, its core vision remains unchanged: to provide local businesses with an affordable platform to showcase their offerings while delivering informative content that enriches the community.

About the Editor

I’ve been a resident of this picturesque area in the Cotswolds with my family since 1997, apart from a brief relocation to Arizona, USA in 2003, before returning in 2008. My three children, who have now all grown up and left home, attended Charfield Primary, Kingswood Primary, and Katharine Lady Berkeley School.

Currently, I reside in Wotton-under-Edge with my loyal furry companion, Merlin the Labradoodle. During my free time, I enjoy attending live shows and musicals whenever possible, exploring new dining experiences, and stealing moments away with my closest friends. For a peaceful escape, my favourite spot is Westonbirt Arboretum, where I occasionally also take along my two-year-old granddaughter, Flora, for some outdoor adventures.
