Scouting has been present in Wotton-under-Edge since 1909, offering young people fun and challenging activities, unique experiences, the chance to develop spiritually, physically and mentally, help others and make a positive impact in our community.  Today, 1st Wotton-under-Edge Scouts is a thriving Group of over 140 young people, 35 trained and dedicated volunteer leaders, all supported by a dynamic Group Executive.

The Group is made of 6 sections: One Beaver Colony (6-8 years), two Cub Packs (8-10 years), two Scout Troops (10-14 years) and a new section a Squirrels Drey (4-6 years) which were added to the national Scouting movement last year.  Our volunteers Leaders work hard to create a varied and fun programme for our young people, following national guidelines and focused on Scouting values: integrity, care, belief and cooperation.

The Group operates from Conygres our Head Quarters on Old London Road and are busy fundraising to build a new meeting hall to accommodate the ever-growing Scout Group. Our goal is to build a new hall and create an all-weather facility capable of comfortably accommodating section meetings, indoor activities and an equipment store.  The new building will provide modern accommodation that is dry, warm and spacious inside, hygienic cooking facilities, modern toilets, improved access for those with limited mobility and an all-weather outdoor space that allows activities, to be undertaken all year round.

With over £120,000 raised already the project is well on its way to achieving the target of £140,000.  However, we are seeking financial and practical support to get closer to the target allowing us to start building.  We will be holding fund raising ‘Conygres Teas on the following dates; 26th march, 23rd April, 21st May, 25th June, 16th July, 17th September.  We will also be running Town Hall Teas on 18th June.

The Leaders and members of the Executive are all volunteers giving up their spare time to provide amazing experiences for our local youngsters.  The waiting list for youngsters to join the Group is currently very long and we would welcome new leaders and volunteers as this (in combination with our plans for a larger meeting space) will allow us to expand and offer places to more children.  There are many roles available to suit different skills and availability.
