Spread the love

The Greenway Group has continued to work towards the implementation of the Wotton, Charfield and Kingswood greenway. Supported by Sustrans, as well as the Parish and Town councils, Stroud District Council, South Gloucestershire Council and Gloucestershire County Council, weve been progressing the greenway route design. Were engaging positively with landowners on the proposed route to help develop concept design drawings. Outline “Heads of Terms” agreements for landowners are also being drafted where appropriate and shared with the relevant council legal teams.

Safety is a key element of the route and, as part of the route design study; Sustrans have been working closely with Gloucestershire County Councils Highways Development Management Team to identify and validate safe road crossing options, where these are required for the route.

Petition

Last year we launched a petition in support of the Greenway at Wotton Community Parc.

This launch was attended by representatives from Wotton Community Sports Foundation, Katharine Lady Berkeleys School, Renishaw, local councils, and local MPs Luke Hall and Siobhan Baillie. The petition is still open, and we are hoping to reach 1,000 signatures soon.  Please sign and share if you havent already!

Next steps

The work on Charfield Station, led by the South Gloucestershire Council Project Team, is advancing. The Greenway Group is committed to ensuring that as much travel to and from the station as possible is done sustainably minimising any impact on traffic levels that the station may have.

We are working with the local councils to establish the next steps for delivery of the greenway, and any further studies that may be needed to enable the project to reach “shovel ready” status, to attract delivery funding from local authority, regional and/or national funds.

The Greenway Group continues to engage with the local community via our Facebook page to promote active travel, and we continue to produce annual newsletters for supporters, which are hosted on the Wotton Area Climate Action Network website: https://www.wottonareacan.org/focus-areas/transport
