Whether youve lived in the district all your life, or are visiting for the first time, Discover Stroud Trails, a new free-of-charge walking app will help you make the most of the Stroud district.

Developed by Stroud District Councils Planning Strategy service, the first trails on the newly launched app feature the towns of Stroud, Stonehouse, Dursley, Wotton-under-Edge, Nailsworth, and Berkeley.

Each circular trail gives a route to follow that can be started at any point, with information about significant buildings along the routes.

Further themed trails are planned which will feature the forthcoming Tour of Britain route, the districts commons, heritage, shopping, food and drink, as well as seasonal trails and others aimed at specific age groups.

The funding to launch the app was provided by the governments Welcome Back Funding which supports the safe return to high streets after the Coronavirus pandemic.

Cllr Catherine Braun Leader of Stroud District Council said:

“The Discover Stroud Trails app is a fantastic way for residents and visitors to explore the hidden gems in our market towns and discover the history of many local sights.  In our Council Plan, weve committed to develop the visitor economy, which in turn supports our high streets and local businesses.”

Cllr Natalie Bennett, Stroud District Council Deputy Leader added:

“Our Council Plan also prioritises ensuring everyone has access to good quality leisure opportunities that meet their needs.

“Regular walking has been shown to improve peoples physical and mental health, and Im confident the Discover Stroud Trails app will be a valuable tool for those seeking to increase their physical activity through walking.”

The app is aimed at walkers aged 18 and over.

Discover Stroud Trails is available to download from the Apple and Google Play store now.
