Sharing is Caring

Stroud District Council has launched a new reduced bulky waste collection charge to support residents who receive council issued benefits – Council Tax Support or Housing Benefit. Eligible households can now book a collection for up to three bulky items for just £5. The standard charge is £25.

The new scheme is designed to make responsible disposal more affordable for those who need a little extra support. It also encourages large items to be collected safely rather than left to become an eyesore or added to fly tipping hotspots.

Bulky waste includes items such as mattresses, furniture and white goods. Collections can be booked online or by phone, and you will need to enter your Council Tax Support or Housing Benefit claim reference when making the booking in order to receive the reduced rate.

Before booking a collection, could you repair, reuse or give away items? There are several repair cafes across the district where volunteers work with residents to fix broken household items, sometimes in return for a small donation. Items that are in a sellable condition may also be collected by local charities, including The Home Remedy Stroud, based in Brimscombe Mill.
