Longfield Community Hospice Opens Its Doors to Break Down the Stigma Around End of Life Care and Planning

Longfield Community Hospice is inviting local people to an Open Afternoon focusing on open, supportive advice around end of life planning—covering everything from Wills and funerals to palliative care and wellbeing.

The drop-in event is being held on Tuesday 7th May, 2-4.00 pm, as part of the national Dying Matters Awareness Week, a campaign that encourages communities to talk more openly about death, dying and bereavement.

Hosted at Longfield’s airy and uplifting Wellbeing Centre in Minchinhampton, the Open Afternoon will bring together a range of professionals and hospice team members who can offer friendly, informal advice on planning for the future.

Confirmed stalls include:

  • A solicitor providing guidance on Wills and legal affairs
  • A funeral celebrant and funeral director, including Jane Diamond, well known locally for leading Nailsworth’s Death Cafés.
  • A representative from Age UK
  • Representatives from Longfield’s Hospice at Home and Wellbeing teams

There may be representatives from the Gloucestershire End of Life and Palliative Team in attendance also.

“We want to create a space where people feel comfortable asking questions, gathering information and simply starting conversations that matter,” said Holly Dawson, who is coordinating the event. “It’s about making these discussions part of life—not something to be feared or avoided.”

Date: Tuesday 7th May

Time: 2:00pm – 4:00 pm

Location: Longfield Community Hospice, Wellbeing Centre, Minchinhampton, GL5 2PQ

The event is free to attend and is open to all adults, registered with a Gloucestershire GP.  Refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon.
