The National Trust site at Tinkley Gate, Woodchester Park, comes alive during the summer months. With excellent café facilities, safe green space and several trails through the neighbouring countryside, it’s the perfect accessible family-friendly destination. We welcome picnics across the site and have set up benches to enable you to relax amongst our wild spaces, with excellent views across to the commons beyond. For visitors with access needs, we also have a bookable Tramper all-terrain mobility vehicle.
Throughout August, Tinkley Gate takes part in the Summer of Play, and there are games and activities on offer throughout the day. We offer kites and frisbees to borrow, a giant Chess set, giant Jenga, Football, Badminton and a few games you may not have played, like ‘Nine Men’s Morris’ and Cornhole. Instructions will be provided for each game, and for the little ones, we also have backpacks with bug spotter pots, binoculars and colouring and art materials to ensure there’s something for everyone. We’ve even set up hammocks in the Elder orchard to enable people to take some time away from the games and relax amongst the quieter zones in the trees.
At Tinkley Gate we are in the process of setting up a number of organised events, and alongside our weekly events such as storytelling for under 5s, we are pleased to be hosting the travelling theatre group The Three Inch Fools for a performance of Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors this September.
With musical instruments in hand, this will be a joyous take on Shakespeare’s shortest – and wildest – comedy. The Fools rush to untangle one almighty mess in this farcical tale of long-lost twins, hysterical misunderstandings, and endless mishaps – it’s guaranteed to be a hit with the whole family. Taking place on Tuesday, 17th September, the whole site will be open early, from 6pm, to enable you to find the perfect spot for a picnic and to set up your seating. As it’s an outdoor performance, we recommend that you bring blankets, chairs and cushions to sit on, as well as come prepared for the weather with warm coats and waterproofs. The performance will continue come rain or shine! We ask that you don’t bring umbrellas as these can obscure the view for other people in the audience.
The performance will start at 7pm and will last approximately 100 minutes, with a 20 minute interval. Search ‘Three Inch Fools Tinkley Gate’ for more information and for tickets. The Three Inch Fools are offering family tickets for £53.90 (2 adults and 2 under 18s) which offers a £10 saving on buying the tickets individually.
We look forward to seeing many of you at the event and enjoying our family-friendly spaces this summer. For more information, please call 01453 860037 or email woodchesterpark@nationaltrust.org.uk
