Sharing is Caring

Woodchester Valley Vineyard has released its new highly anticipated Sauvignon Blanc vintage in time for English Wine Week (15th-23rd June). The Cotswold-based vineyard and winery has become famous for its Sauvignon Blanc after winning multiple awards for it over the years, the most notable being the 2021 vintage achieving a Master Medal, the highest award, at the Global Sauvignon Blanc Masters Awards in 2022.

Founder Fiona Shiner says: “Sauvignon Blanc is a rare find in the vineyards of England, so it is exciting to be producing a single, varietal, limited edition Sauvignon Blanc wine made from grapes grown at our vineyard in Stonehouse, Gloucestershire. This vintage follows a number of great success stories, and this one certainly lives up to our expectations.”

Woodchester Valley has won awards for its Sauvignon Blanc since its first release in 2017, with the 2017 and 2018 vintages awarded Silver and Gold medals at international competition level.

Fiona continues: “We only have 2,000 Sauvignon vines planted, so this is one of our smaller productions, which is why it sells out so quickly. We’re excited about releasing another interesting vintage that we know fans of our previous Sauvignon Blanc wines will love.”

Master of Wine, Susan McCraith says: “The new 2023 vintage is a true cool climate example, with gooseberry and cut grass on the nose and grapefruit and citrus fruits on the palate. It’s mouthwateringly refreshing with oodles of Sauvignon Blanc character and a lovely long finish.”

Winemaker Jeremy Mount adds: “This years’ wine has developed into a particularly classic example of cool climate Sauvignon Blanc, both aromatically and in flavour length. We have three clones that bring differing flavours and aromatic attributes, and we are learning every year how varied and interesting this wine can be.”

The Sauvignon Blanc 2023 vintage is available to purchase for £27 per bottle from Woodchester Valley’s online shop (www.woodchestervalleyvineyard.co.uk), or from its Cellar Door shop just outside of Stroud, Gloucestershire, GL5 5EY. The wine will be available on tours and tastings during English Wine Week
