Rushmire Hill, which climbs out of Wotton-under-Edge, past Cotswold Edge Golf Club and on towards Tetbury, is set to be closed for six months from January next year for six months.
A Gloucestershire County Council spokesperson said: “The B4058 Rushmire Hill has been affected by cracking and subsidence since it was first inspected in September 2016. Since this first inspection, Ground Investigation has been undertaken in 2018 and 2023 to monitor movement and install groundwater and ground movement monitoring equipment.
“The site has deteriorated over the last seven years and has been resurfaced multiple times. Intervention now will prevent further movement and the risk of more catastrophic failure. We are currently preparing for works to start and will be starting on site in January 2025. Construction is anticipated to last approximately 6 months.”
A Rushmire Hill Public Share/Meet the Contractor Event is being held on the 10th of December at Wotton Baptist Church between the hours of 10:00-19:00.
