About

The History of the Magazine

Founded by Karin Gray in October 2005, The Wotton-Under-Edge Directory has been a steadfast champion of local businesses and events. The magazine has evolved over the years, transforming from its early black-and-white pages to the vibrant, full-colour publication our readers enjoy today. Despite these updates, The Wotton Directory has held onto a loyal readership, with some advertisers from our very first issue still part of our community.

In February 2008, Karin Gray passed the editorial reins to Polly and Steve Barnes, who guided the magazine until Moira Buist took over in July 2009. After nine dedicated years, Moira handed the baton to Jan Baber in 2018, who has been at the helm ever since. While the magazine’s look may have changed, its mission has stayed the same: to provide an affordable, effective platform for local businesses and to share content that enriches our community.

About the Editor

I’ve lived in this beautiful part of the Cotswolds with my family since 1997, with a brief adventure in Arizona, USA, in 2003 before returning in 2008. My three children, now grown and flown, attended Charfield Primary, Kingswood Primary, and Katharine Lady Berkeley School.

I now live in Wotton-under-Edge with my loyal Labradoodle, Merlin. In my free time, I love going to live shows and musicals, trying out new restaurants, and spending time with close friends. For a peaceful escape, I often head to Westonbirt Arboretum, a favourite spot I sometimes share with my three-year-old granddaughter, Flora, for outdoor adventures.
