A Cotswold homecoming and a bright new future for one of Wotton’s landmark businesses.
Joseph Trinder first trained as a junior sale room assistant with Wotton Auction Rooms in 2010 – going on to take to the rostrum for the first time shortly after his 18th birthday.
Over the next few years he was mentored by Philip Taubenheim, gaining an excellent early start in the auction world and quickly becoming a confident auctioneer and general valuer, routinely handling everything from silver and jewellery to furniture, fine art and much more. During this time, Joseph also started an active involvement at a wider industry level, serving as president of NAVA Propertymark (The National Association of Valuers and Auctioneers) during his time at Wotton, becoming the youngest premier in the association’s history at just 22 years of age.
He then left Wotton to pursue opportunities, initially gaining experience in a start-up saleroom based in London and Berkshire, going on to hold prominent positions with some of the largest and most prestigious sale rooms across the UK and in Central Europe – most recently culminating as senior auctioneer, valuer and partner with Gorringe’s of Lewes, the leading sale room in the South East of England.
…And there he may have stayed indefinitely, if not for the opportunity to return to his native Cotswolds (a Cirencester lad born and bred) and re-join his friend and mentor at Wotton Auction Rooms in a new partnership which now sees Trinder and Taubenheim as joint owners and partners in the historic local firm, in an agreement which will see Joseph as sole owner, as Philip prepares for retirement in coming years, having owned the business since 1992.
“From the moment I met Joseph aged just sixteen, I knew there was something special about him. When he left, I thought we had lost him” says Philip.
“Happily, instead, it has been rather like sending a son out into the world to learn from broader experiences before welcoming him back to the family business”
“I believe that in a year’s time the business will be much the better for it. It is a comfortable fit for a local lad and I am very excited to see his progression from here.”
Joseph remarks “I couldn’t be happier to be back home or prouder to share a partner’s desk with my mentor and dear friend, Philip.
The opportunity to join such a prestigious and respected business at partner level at the age of just thirty is a real gift – I’m hugely excited for what the future holds! Keep posted for news on new specialist sales and much more!”
