Construction work is expected to begin early in 2025 to stabilise land on Rushmire Hill and prevent further traffic delays on the B4058.
The B4058 is a key route in the county connecting Wotton-under–Edge with areas to the north and west, such as Nailsworth, Stroud and Tetbury. It has been subject to repeat disruption due to unstable ground below a section of the road to the north-west of Wotton-Under-Edge, also known as Rushmire Hill. The site has been closely monitored and investigated since 2016 and different phases of resurfacing have been carried out to maintain road access.
Gloucestershire County Council now plan to carry out a large-scale repair to ensure the long–term stability of the road. A report going to cabinet on Wednesday 24 July establishes that in October the county council will be seeking a contractor to design and implement the ground stabilisation. The scheme cost is estimated to be £2.5 million and work is expected to be completed by autumn 2025.
