This year marks the tercentenary of the building of St Marys Church, Kingswood. After Kingswood Abbey was destroyed during the Reformation, the residents of Kingswood went on worshipping in the former Lady Chapel of the Abbey. With the expanding wool trade in subsequent centuries, the village grew much bigger and the population needed a bigger church to worship in. A new church was built and dedicated in 1723.
300 years later we are celebrating the past, present and future of that new building with a series of events throughout the year including, our annual
Village Church Fete on 24th June 1-5pm in the gardens of Amercombe, 11 High Street Kingswood GL12 8RS.
The fete will have a birthday theme this year to reflect our 300-year celebrations. There will be the usual mix of stalls, games, teas, bar and barbecue with the traditional treasure-hunt for children and grand prize draw.
We would welcome donations of all kinds bottles for the bottle stall, books, plants and cakes. Please leave donations at the back of the church at any time or at Amercombe from the week before the fete. We always need more helpers! If you can spare an hour or two on the day, that would be hugely welcome.
COME AND ENJOY MEETING YOUR FRIENDS AND RELAXING IN THE BEAUTIFUL GARDEN.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU!
