Sharing is Caring

In Charfield, there’s a piece of land fondly known by locals as “the play area,” with grass, some concrete, and pathways around it. Around six months ago, a generous parent donated a good-sized goal for the children to enjoy. Unfortunately , it was slightly damaged and eventually  broke after recent bad weather and strong winds.

Many villagers had commented on how lovely it was to see the kids playing there and having fun outside. While there are goals at the local playing field, the road to get there is quite dangerous for younger children—especially since it’s been used as a diversion route during nearby building works.

A thoughtful community member set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for two new goals. This was shared on the Charfield Facebook group, and a collection pot was placed in the local shop. Thanks to amazing local support, one goal was donated and enough money raised to buy a second one.

The result? Children laughing, playing, and being active outside — something many villagers commented on as a joy to see.

💔 Sadly, we’ve now heard that a complaint by local residents has been made to the council, and the goals have been ordered to be removed within 7 days.

Not the outcome many hoped for after such a strong community effort — We hope this isn’t the end of the story.
